Work will start next month on the building of a 420 space multi-storey car park in Hatfield, marking another major milestone in the regeneration of the town centre.
Located on the site of the current Common car park, contractors, Bourne Parking, will start work on the £6m project on 1 June. The Common car park will be closed and a temporary car park with 48 spaces will be made available at Fourways, site of the former Pizza Hut building. Signage is being introduced across the town centre, to direct people to the temporary parking.
Over a third of the town centre is currently used for surface level car parking. The multi-storey car park will consolidate some of this parking in one place, freeing up sites elsewhere for much needed new homes, shops, leisure and businesses.
Hertfordshire Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP), is contributing £4.8m from the Local Growth Fund towards the cost of the car park, with the council funding the remaining £1.2m.

The council recently announced the approval of a £20 million redevelopment of One Town Centre in Hatfield to help attract new businesses and provide more jobs for local people.
The multi-storey is due to open in spring 2021.
